5:10 PM:
This time we won’t have the refs in our pocket either.
Lakers -7.5 -101 (2)
5:00 PM:
Play the Lakers? Or Pass Them? That is the debate that is raging in my mind right now. Their certainly isn’t another 4 unit play on the horizon. That much I can promise.
4:40 PM:
Gilmore actually carded an 86. The high round of the day so far. I can’t even fathom trying to get through with this course.
4:37 PM:
I am such a fucking ass clown sometimes. I reversed jinxed Padraig right into a double bogey. That is great except I need him to out show Sergio. Solid work.
4:26 PM:
Gilmore in with an 85.
4:13 PM:
Cink and Stenson are both hanging out on the evil side of par already. The run is over. Let’s all sit back and watch Padraig win this thing. That would be a hoot.
3:50 PM:
The Poles got absolutely hosed at the end of their tie with Austria. I would have been on them at -.5 +140 had I not been at the cell phone store when the pick got posted. What an incredible break. Stupidity should never be rewarded like that.
3:34 PM:
Fat Pat bogeys his final two holes, #8 and #9, and finishes +4. Stricker came in at +2. If it’s half empty we are pissed at Fat Pat for the poor finish. If it’s half full we recognize that Stricker was up 6 strokes at one point. You know which one it is for me.
3:15 PM:
Mickelson comes in Even. Woods at +1. We are winning at the moment, but those results are a far cry from what I was looking for. Nobody grinds quite like Tiger. You have to give him the edge as long as his body continues to hold up.
2:36 PM:
The course seems to be playing much harder right now than it was earlier this morning. We had the worst of it with the tee times today. I am just hoping that one of my two outrights can survive what figures to be a brutal first round.
2:27 PM:
There are a couple of guys out there right now who are in jeopardy of going higher than Tony Romo did last Friday. Now obviously the course setup is much tougher today, but still, Homo has game.
2:15 PM:
Nationals blow a fantastic opportunity in the Top of the 8th. Awesome.
1:56 PM:
I was hoping to come back to some good news. Nothing doing though. I have a huge case of buyer’s remorse right now. I walked into the Verizon store, approached the nearest rep and said, “Give the cheapest phone you’ve got that has score checking capability”. The rep did what I asked. My new phone is arguably worse than my old one which was a giant pile of shit, and it still cost me 2/5x because I was unwilling to extend my contract. Fuck Me.
12:22 PM:
This is getting out of hand. The bases plays are fried. Mickelson is toast. The Croats are winning, but that isn’t even that great of news. When the Verizon rep denies that manufacturer defect was responsible for my phone breaking I am going to lose it.
11:45 AM:
I am getting bent over at work at the moment, and I have to spend my lunch break at the local Verizon store. I am really glad that I backed off Mickletits a little bit. I was initially going to risk 5 units on him to beat Tiger. That would have been a bad mistake.
10:54 AM:
Fat Pat is +2, 4 shots behind Stricker. Westwood already has it to -1. This is eerily reminiscent of how my match-up plays started out at the Masters. Not Good. Not good at all.
10:41 AM:
I am streaming this bitch now. In an hour I will have streaming video of golf, two MLB gamecasts, a live soccer gamecast, and all of my work programs open at once. My CPU is fucked.
10:27 AM:
Woods with a double bogey at 1. Under normal circumstances I wouldn’t even flinch at this news. I am rooting pretty hard against him, but I really hope he doesn’t do any permanent damage to his knee. That would be bad for business long term.
10:03 AM:
Stricker rams home another one to take it to -2. I am already on edge. These tournament match-ups add an entire different dynamic to following the action. It is really easy when you only have an outright or two. You just root for your guys and against everyone else. With the match-ups it gets convoluted. We need Phil to do well, but not to well because we don’t want him to outperform Stewart and Henrik. All told I have a monetary interest in 1/13th of the 156 player field. Ridiculous.
9:42 AM:
Also at -1, Patti Sheehan. I had no idea that she was coming out of retirement to play this week.
9:39 AM:
Thanks to reader Chris I am now following the action over here. Nice to see that Stricker birdied the first. What a great start!
9:30 AM:
I can already tell that I am going to come to hate the majorchampionships.com “live” scoreboard. By my math the first groups have been out there for a half an hour already, and we are still waiting for our first update. Luckily the television coverage for this event is much more extensive than it was for the AT&T classic. Meaning that there won’t be a tape delayed showing of the final round this time around.
9:02 AM:
I added a U.S. Open tracker to the right toolbar to make things easier for everybody. You can follow the latest impending golf disaster here. For as much shit as I gave PGATour.Com over their jinx attempts, I am going to miss their live scoreboard this week. I hate change.
8:42 AM:
I mulled this one over in my bed last night while I was struggling to fall asleep. I’ve got the Germans to win the group, so a draw is the wet dream result for me. I am not considering this a hedge, but it does a nice job of serving as one none the less. There is loads of value in Croatia +500 to win the game, but that wouldn’t cover my ass in the event of a draw so I didn’t go that route.
Croatia +1/2 +117 (2)
8:36 AM:
A pretty lame baseball card if you ask me. That is okay. It’s not like I am hurting for action right now.
Gambler/Buehrle Over 10 +103 (1)
Nationals +123 (1)
Balitwhore +150 (1)
8:30 AM:
Predictably the site is running slow as molasses right now. I just have not had the time to move it off the Blow Daddy servers yet.
8:20 AM:
Good morning gentlemen. I hope that Henrik slept better than I did last night. Baseball and soccer picks for the day will be up shortly.

And what the hell kind of a URL is “www.majorschampionships.com”? That doesn’t even make sense.
I’ve been pissed ever since I realized the tee times I was looking at were PST, and our guys don’t start until almost 4 here.
This is one of the few times where I hate the West Coast. At least we will have the option of watching it live if we want.
I highly doubt we get a sweat out of either of them anyways. We are due for a pair of MC’s.
Where’s the best link to follow the Open? I’m currently on http://www.majorschampionships.com/usopen/2008/scoring/ but still am not seeing any updated scores.
Probably should have refreshed the page before my last post…
usopen.com is working just fine. You can also customize the leaderboard to cater to your degeneracy.
I advocated for Choi over on RMMB, but this is way way too fast out of the gate. He’ll blow his load by 12.
Chris, how do you customize the players? I must be retarded because I can’t figure out how to select my pool guys.
You have to save your players on the main page.
If woods withdraws due to injury does that still count as a win for mickelson? I can hope right
If woods withdraws due to injury does that still count as a win for mickelson?
Yes, Now that he has started all bets are action.
Sorry about the double post
please tell us what you do for a living. i am laughing hard picturing your “work station” right now. do your co-workers have any idea what you do?
D Murra,
I work for a small family-owned company and my desk is isolated.
Corporate America wants nothing to do with me and my shenanigans. And that is just fine by me.
D Murra – Don’t let him confuse you. His life is gambling, thankfully he has a job, where he can do just that, all day everyday.
Speaking of your office Hojoke. When you break things such as the stapler or cell phone, you should post the pictures, I think that would be hilarious.
Strick is holding it down. Sorry ML but I did take a 1/3x flier on him at 125/1. I know he probably can’t hold up all weekend but I’ll take it.
Hojoke – Gambler/Buehrle Over 10 +103 (1). With so much going on, I’m sure you haven’t paid any attention to the changing baseball lines. Within the past hour it moved down to 9.5 and now 9. Any idea why?
No clue. But that really pisses me off. Very rarely do I get a shit number.
I’m doing nothing at work today and want to continue gambling on everything. You playing the second soccer game, or what is your mentor’s pick?
Anyone else having trouble with their stream and the commentator’s being on the same page? I’ve switched to the lower bandwidth, but it doesn’t seem to be helping.
We got a chance. They are now tied at +1. Wow what a nice little 3 stroke swing.
T-bone,
I switched to the low band and haven’t had any problems. Then again I am listening to it more than I am watching it.
This Gilmore guy is going to surpass Romo. He’s +12 with a triple, two doubles, and five bogeys already, and he’s still got five holes left.
I hope you didn’t bet on the second match today, McHale, because I know I’d have three heart attacks during that first half, regardless of which side I decided on.
I’ve only caught 5 minutes of the Open so far today and saw Rocco almost pitch in from 100 yards out and your boy Imada come extremely close to a hole in one. I mean the ball slowly rolled over the cup. It was great, and this was after I read someone on RMMB asking if there should be value in take the -220 on there not being a hole in one. Funny how that works, huh. Now let’s get Stenson to hit some great shots this weekend.
Yeah I’d be crying if I had bet on Austria or Poland. Great decision to pass on that, ML, in the midst of the Open wrenching your nerves.
Cajun,
I didn’t want to pass. I was at the stupid cell phone store when the pick was posted. We would have had the Poles.
Looks the cell phone store saved me a bundle. What a break.
Hahaha if you were gonna play the moneyline/spread, serious congratulations. You’d be going back to the Verizon store a touch too soon.
The miracle goal slash bullshit call in the last minute gives me the win. So happy right now. I took Austria +1/2 -135 1x. Up 3 units on soccer for the day.
But, Cajun do I know you? How did you know I was considering Austria. I only spoke to Moneyline about this over the telephone.
Haha, no, I was just commenting on the situation in general.
It was a good call, in my opinion. You don’t pull jerseys in soccer; it SHOULD be a yellow card every time. And to make that mistake in the box, up a goal, 92nd minute.. dumb, just dumb. Austria deserved at least a point from that game anyway.
Cajun – Got ya. I didn’t see the play, just read about it, so I was just going based on what I had been told. From what the announcers on the radio were saying, Austria should have won this game handily.
McHale got even luckier than me. I recommended Austria on the phone in the dark. Nothing more than a blind guess at who I would have been on. Glad it worked out.
Gambling…where Amazing happens!
Sergio’s +6 thru 7 — on pace to be even higher than Happy (sorry, couldn’t resist). So you have a clash of the double-bogeys going on there with him and Paddy.
What happens on these if both guys miss the cut? I know all bets are action, so is it just their 2 round score?
To go even further, what if Player A misses the cut at +9 but then Player B makes the weekend and ends up +11? I imagine Player B still wins the bet, but I’m not too well-versed in golf bets (I only started reading the site a few months ago).
If both miss cut, low score win. If Player A misses cut, and Player B shoots 600 on the weekend, Player B still wins for outlasting Player A.
What Chris said.
A lot of outlandish crap can happen with these. At the Masters I had Casey over someboby whom I can’t recall. At one point during the weekend Casey was up an absurd amount of strokes, at 11 or 12, and he only ended up winning by 1 after he collapsed on Sunday.
They aren’t over until the ticket is graded.
That’s the thing about golf and baseball…they’re not over til it’s over. O/U’s in baseball are never safe. Like I said last night, I thought the U was golden thru 8 on the Philly-FL one. (It still came in by there were 5 runs just in the 9th when it looked like the bottom wouldn’t even be played).
Thanks for the info, guys.
“O/U’s in baseball are never safe.”
So you’re saying if I take an over and the total surpasses the number, but there’s still baseball to play…… I’m not safe?
On a side note, how the fuck did you get so many comments on this post ML? Is this a site record?
“So you’re saying if I take an over and the total surpasses the number, but there’s still baseball to play…… I’m not safe?”
Correct. You are still not safe.
“Game must go 9 innings (8.5 if home team is ahead) or this pick is NO ACTION.”
Maynard,
People love sharing in my misery. I am carving out a nice niche for myself.
I think the Georgia preview has just as many, but most of those belong to Thomas Brown.
If we are talking total number of characters and long winded paragraphs rather than shear post volume, The Georgia preview will never be beaten.
And just for the record. You are never safe until your ticket has been paid. Period. There is no way to rebut this point. Whenever I am convinced that I have seen it all something new and terrible happens.
OK…let me clarify. I meant in the case that you have the UNDER, it’s not safe. As opposed to football or hoops where it’s pretty hard to score 20 or so points with the clock running out.
Unders and winners is what I meant. A 9 run lead in the 9th of a baseball game isn’t over. It’s relatively safe but not over. A 21 point lead in hoops with 30 seconds left…I think that’s just about over.
I just wasted my time explaining something that I’d assume everyone knew what I meant…and I did that because it’s more fun than watching this hoops game.
